Carpet cleaning in Hicksville, NY
Wall-to-wall carpet holds roughly a year of foot traffic before the pile starts to mat and the traffic lanes stop responding to vacuuming. We clean with truck-mounted hot water extraction, which is the method carpet manufacturers name in their warranty language.

Short answerWe clean carpet with truck-mounted hot water extraction in Hicksville and central Nassau. Carpet is damp when we leave, walkable in two hours, and dry in four to six. Pricing is per room with stairs per flight, quoted in writing before any work starts.
What the visit looks like
We walk the rooms with you first and point out what will come out and what won't. Old bleach spots, sun-faded seams, and cellulosic browning on jute-backed carpet are permanent — we say so before we start rather than after. Then we dry-vacuum, pre-spray a solution matched to the fiber, agitate traffic lanes with a counter-rotating brush, and extract at high heat and high vacuum.
Dry time and why it matters
A properly extracted carpet is damp to the touch, not wet, and is walkable in socks within a couple of hours. Full dry runs four to six hours with air movement. If a cleaner leaves your carpet soaked overnight, they under-extracted, and that is how wicking stains and musty odor start. We leave air movers on request at no charge in finished basements, which is where slow drying causes the most trouble on Long Island.
Pricing
We price by room and by condition, quoted before we unroll a hose. Stairs are priced per flight. Heavily soiled traffic lanes and pet contamination are a separate line item because they need a separate process — we won't quote you a low room rate and then discover the surcharge in your living room.
What's included
- Truck-mounted hot water extraction, not a portable unit
- Fiber-matched pre-spray for nylon, polyester, olefin and wool
- Counter-rotating brush agitation on traffic lanes and stairs
- Neutralizing rinse so no sticky detergent residue is left behind
- Furniture moved and blocked; heavy pieces stay in place
- Written quote before work starts
What carpet cleaning costs in Hicksville
Most residential carpet cleaning on Long Island is priced per room rather than per square foot, with a room capped at a set size so a 12 by 14 bedroom and a 20 by 30 great room are not billed the same way. What moves the number up is condition rather than area: heavily soiled traffic lanes need a second pre-spray and a slower extraction pass, pet contamination needs a separate process entirely, and stairs are labor-intensive enough that they are always quoted per flight. What moves it down is access and simplicity — empty rooms, no furniture to block, one level. We quote before we unroll a hose, and the quote does not change once we are inside unless you add rooms.
Hot water extraction compared with the alternatives
Bonnet cleaning spins an absorbent pad over the carpet surface. It is fast and it looks good for a week, but it only touches the top third of the pile and it leaves detergent behind, so the carpet re-soils faster than before. Dry compound cleaning spreads an absorbent powder that is brushed in and vacuumed out; it is genuinely useful in a commercial space that cannot be wet, and genuinely inadequate on a soiled residential carpet. Encapsulation lays down a polymer that crystallizes around soil for removal by the next vacuum, which makes it an excellent maintenance method and a poor restorative one. Hot water extraction is the only method that flushes soil out of the base of the pile and removes it from the building, which is why carpet manufacturers name it in their warranty conditions.
| Method | How deep it reaches | Dry time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hot water extraction | Base of the pile, soil removed from the building | 4–6 hours | Restorative cleaning; required by most carpet warranties |
| Encapsulation | Upper pile; soil released into the next vacuum | Under 1 hour | Commercial maintenance on a schedule |
| Bonnet | Top third only; leaves detergent behind | 1–2 hours | Quick appearance fix; re-soils fast |
| Dry compound | Upper pile | Immediate | Spaces that cannot be wet at all |
| Rental machine | Wets the backing, little comes back up | 12–24 hours | Small spills only |
Rental machines and why they disappoint
A supermarket rental unit produces roughly a tenth of the vacuum lift of a truck mount and cannot heat water past what your tap supplies. The result is predictable: enough solution goes down to wet the backing and not enough comes back up to remove it. The carpet stays damp for a day or more, dissolved soil wicks back to the surface as it dries, and the detergent that stays behind makes the carpet attract dirt faster than it did before. If you have already tried one and the carpet looked worse afterwards, that is the mechanism, and it is correctable — we flush the residue out with a proper acid rinse.

(516) 894-2880Questions we get
How long does carpet take to dry?
Four to six hours in a normally ventilated room. Basements and rooms with no airflow take longer, so we place air movers when needed.
Do I need to vacuum first?
No. We dry-vacuum as the first step. Picking up toys, cords and small items off the floor is the only prep we ask for.
Will cleaning make my carpet get dirty faster?
Only if detergent is left in the pile. We finish with an acid rinse that neutralizes the pre-spray, which is what prevents re-soiling.
How much does carpet cleaning cost in Hicksville?
It is priced per room with stairs quoted per flight, and the number depends on condition more than size. We give you a firm written price before starting, and it does not change unless you add rooms.
Do you use hot water extraction or steam cleaning?
They are the same thing. Truck-mounted hot water extraction is what the industry calls steam cleaning, and it is the method named in most carpet warranties.
Can you clean carpet in an occupied house with kids and pets?
Yes. The carpet is walkable in socks in about two hours and fully dry in four to six. Everything we use is safe once dry.
